Camera and microphone permissions
The app needs camera access to record. It asks for the microphone only when you switch audio recording on; if you never do, it never asks.
If you denied a permission, you can allow it again in the system settings.
- Android: Settings › Apps › Retro Analog Camera › Permissions.
- iPhone: Settings › Retro Analog Camera, then turn on Camera (and Microphone if you want sound).
Recording problems
If the preview is black or the camera cannot start, close other apps that may be using the camera and reopen the app.
Recording stops automatically when the app leaves the foreground, and the video is saved up to that point. If the app is force-quit or the device runs out of power mid-recording, the unfinished video may be lost (Android) or may only be partly playable (iPhone).
If saving fails because storage is full, free up space and record again.
Import and render problems
Importing uses the system video picker, so the app never needs access to your whole library. Rendering creates a new video; your original is not changed.
Rendering needs free storage of about twice the size of the result. If the app reports a decoding problem, the video probably uses a format this device cannot decode.
Known issue: video recorded in portrait on some phones carries rotation information that may not be read correctly on some Android versions, which can produce a stretched or rotated result. We are investigating; this has not yet been verified across real devices.
Where my videos are
Android: recordings and rendered videos are saved to your device’s Movies › RetroVault folder, so gallery apps can also show them.
iPhone: videos are kept in the app’s private Vault. Use “Save to Photos” in the video menu to copy one to your Photos library.
Deleting a video in the Vault deletes it from this device.
Device compatibility
Android 10 or later, and iOS 17 or later. The look is processed on your device’s graphics hardware, so older or very low-end devices may drop frames. The app lowers the effect quality when it detects heavy load. Resolutions offered depend on what your device’s encoder supports.
